Introducing:
Tanya D.

Where do you currently live?

Rochester, Minnesota

Please tell us a bit about yourself.

I grew up in a small town of 385 people in the Midwest close to the world renowned Mayo Clinic. My father died when I was a baby. I have one half-brother. I keep extremely busy taking care of things, as my real title is “chaos manager.”

A few years ago, my friends gave me the tag line “Tanya fixes EVERYTHING” because I seem to have a connection or know how to get almost every situation fixed that came up.

I have been self employed all my adult life. in some version or another. It’s given me the opportunity to work around our family schedule and be the mom I wanted for my kids by volunteering at church and school as well as home for them and with them.

CI Rep Spotlight - Margrette R

Please tell us a bit about your family (pets included).

I am blessed to be the mother to 2 beautiful now grown daughters Caitlynn, almost 27, and Ashley, 21, as well as a handsome young man Landon, 15. They are my life and my world! All 3 of them were born premature. Landon was the biggest weighing over 3 pounds. Praise God they are all healthy! Currently Ashley and her blue Russian cat Remington Marie are living at my home (boy has she got some personality to show us on a daily basis).

I date a guy that originally was from East TX. We’ve been together for almost 5 years now. It’s been very interesting to see the similarities between Minnesota and Texas as well as learn the things that are so different. I’m lucky enough to work with him sometimes.

I finally need to mention that I’m blessed to still have my 97 year old grandma with me. She still lives at home and drives her car.  She even takes her trash out, shovels the snow, and gets down on her hands and knees to mop the floor. Once in a while she will take a ride with me while I’m working so she can get out and see the countryside.

Tanya’s Experience With Customer Impact

How did you discover Customer Impact?

I’m not even sure how I discovered CI it’s been so long ago.

What made you decide to work with Customer Impact?

It was another company to add to the group of companies I contracted with to help make this my full-time career.

What do you like most about being a Retail Merchandiser?

I have the ability to set my own schedule and meet new people on a daily basis. If there’s someone I don’t care for that I’m dealing with, I only have to work with them a short period of time and either not see them again ever or not until I’m back at that location. It’s great! I also don’t have to work with a scheduler or company that I don’t care for. You don’t have those options when you’re an employee somewhere.

What’s something you find challenging about Retail Merchandising?

Dealing with people that don’t know what is going on or are new at their job. People that question my ability to get things done, or question that I know what I am doing. Getting to a location an having to stand around an wait because people don’t know why you are there or what you mean when you explain why you are there.  Sometimes being there for a simple task seems like they feel like it’s a matter of national security. Lol.

Do you have any helpful tips for people starting as a Retail Merchandiser?

Keep a calendar and track of your expenses. When you find a company you enjoy contracting with and you appreciate a scheduler, let them know.

What other gig-work have you done?

Leading and mentoring people with my direct sales companies is a passion of mine. I love seeing these individuals as they change and grown with the success of their businesses. I do mystery shopping for several companies and auditing. I’ve taken pictures of vehicles for one company for insurance purposes.

Getting To Know Tanya

What are three things most people don’t know about you?

I lost a son right after he was born. Joseph would have been 30 this year. I am deathly afraid of mice (You could probably hear me scream in TX). I love organizing storage items. Take me to the organization area of any store and you’re in trouble. My brain will be spinning trying to figure out where and what to use the items for.

What motivates or inspires you?

My children. They are my love and life every day.

What are your hobbies or interest?

I love photography and scrapbooking. I used to take about 17,000 pictures a year when the kids were little. I’m a county music fan and enjoy concerts and love Nashville. I like riding horses and snowmobiles. Going out to eat or visiting wineries or a distillery for a tasting are a fun pastime. When we have a camper, I enjoy that to. I also love DIY projects and crafting.

What’s your favorite holiday or season, and why?

Christmas…I love decorating, entertaining, baking, the way the snow glistens when its fresh and not walked on. Our tree is filled with personalized ornaments with something special from each of our lives for the year. It just looks like love to me when I look at it. I hate to see it come down each year. It usually goes up after my daughter’s birthday in late November and stays up until just before my son’s in early February because of that.

What is the greatest challenge you have overcome in your life, thus far?

Losing my grandma.

What is one small change you made in your life that had a much bigger impact than you anticipated?

Not doing things out of obligation.

Name one thing you’re willing to spend more money on to make sure you get the best quality.

Anything that’s important to me.

What are you proud of, but have never had an excuse to talk about?
(Yes, this is your time to brag)

The training program I created when I was doing Thirty-One.
