I’m not one to stray away from my typical restaurants of choice, but one day a group of friends and I decided to try Beck’s Prime. As I walked in and headed toward the counter, I noticed something different and more engaging – a digital menu board! The menu items were displayed on four sleek-looking panels and a fifth was used as a promotional display. This got me thinking about the digital menu board (DMB) concept and how restaurants are using them to benefit their business.

Just think about this for a moment. Increasing food prices, the push for restaurants to offer healthier menu items and the constant update of promotional items affects how often menus are changed. These updates are expensive in terms of printing and design. Have you ever noticed that some restaurants just scratch out the price and do not even bother replacing the menu?

So, what are the benefits of having a DMB? For starters, the digital experience allows restaurants to implement new marketing tactics and draw attention towards their products. This may include showing steam off a burger or condensation on a glass of soda, enticing the customer to purchase items. It also allows them to quickly change the pricing, menu items and new promotions.

Have you been to a restaurant where they display digital menu boards? If so, did the menu items appeal to you more? Share your thoughts here and let us know what you think!
